Using your mitt
What is a kese?
A kese is the woven mitt used for the body scrub in a Turkish hammam. The attendant who does the scrub is called a tellak, which is where our name comes from.
How do I use it?
- Soak in a warm shower or bath for 5 to 10 minutes. Skip the soap for now.
- Wet the mitt, then wring it out so it's damp, not dripping.
- Step out of the water and rub in long, firm strokes. Go gently on sensitive areas.
- Rinse off, pat dry and moisturize.
How often should I use it?
Once a week is plenty for most people. If your skin feels tender afterwards, leave more time between scrubs.
Should I use soap or shower gel with it?
Not during the scrub. The mitt works by friction on soft, damp skin, and soap or oil makes it slide. Wash afterwards.
I don't see much coming off. What should I change?
Usually the skin hasn't soaked long enough, or the mitt is too wet. Give it a full 5 to 10 minutes in warm water, skip soap and oils beforehand, wring the mitt until it's just damp, and step out of the stream while you scrub. Results vary from person to person.
Can I use it on my face?
We don't recommend it. The mitt is made for the body, and the skin on your face is more delicate.
Who shouldn't use it?
Don't use the mitt on broken, sunburned or irritated skin. If you have a skin condition, check with your doctor first.
Can I use it before self-tan?
Yes. Exfoliating the day before gives self-tan a smoother surface to go on.

What's in the set?
One Tellak mitt, one olive oil soap bar and one peshtemal towel. The set costs less than buying the three items on their own.
Can I buy extra soap or an extra mitt?
Yes. On the set page you can pick the set with an extra soap bar, an extra mitt, or both, for less than buying them separately. The soap is also sold on its own in packs of 1, 2 or 3 bars.
Is there a free gift?
Orders of $80 or more get a free Tellak Face Mitt, added to your cart automatically. One per order.
Care
How do I clean the mitt?
Rinse it well with clean water after each use, wring it out and hang it to dry.
When should I replace it?
When the weave starts to feel smooth or worn. How long that takes depends on how often you use it.
Where are your products made?
Our mitts and peshtemal towels are woven in Türkiye, and our olive oil soap is made in Türkiye.

We currently ship within the United States. Orders ship from a warehouse in the US.
How long does delivery take?
Orders are processed in 1 to 2 business days. Standard delivery then takes 7 to 10 business days, and express delivery takes 3 to 5 business days.
How much is shipping?
Standard shipping is $8.99, and free on orders over $80. Express shipping is $19.99.
